This is our first father's day without Kylene since she was born. I was so very lucky to bear the title of Kylene's father. I was not worthy, for she deserved far, far better. But I was lucky to be blessed with the charge of this very special person through the too few years she graced this earth. Kylene sometimes asked me if I was disappointed, if I would rather have been the father of someone without disabilities. I told her of course not, that she was a blessing and I wouldn't trade her for anything, and that whether she could walk or not, she was everything that any man could ever want in a daughter. And she was. I recently read a quote on a slide, "We seldom think of what we have, but always think of what we miss." How very true that is. |
