Tim Hoffer died on November 5, 2008, of cancer. He was 43 years old. He was full of life, full of fun, full of the joy of giving. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it and it was his last. You never spoke to him that he was not touting the accomplishments of his wife and children. His eyes lit up when he spoke of his family. He loved to cook and show his culinary talents. He displayed this talent best when his son Jake graduated from high school. He and Lavina cooked a feast for the graduation party covering several tables and every aspect of the food pyramid. He was my baby brother, he was special to me. He was bigger than life in size, in heart, and in presence. How this insidious cancer could cut down such a big man in his prime astonishes me. If anyone could have beaten this damnable disease, he would have conquered it with ease, but that was not to be. He was taller than me and enjoyed teasing me about my height. He was a kidder and loved playing practical jokes on anyone gullible enough to not recognize what he was doing. He told me that when he was taking the chemotherapy and had difficulty sleeping, he would sit out on the porch and just watch the hummingbirds feeding. He would sit for hours in the quiet enjoying nature, while his family was sleeping. He said it brought him comfort knowing they were inside their home and he could still watch over them. He is no longer on this earth, but I feel he is watching over them from Heaven. He will guide his children through good and bad times and he will always love his beautiful Lavina. He loved his family more than anything. And we loved him for it. We shall miss him forever, but we will never forget him. Until we meet again, Timmy, we love you! ~ Vonnie and Jim Links |
